The Fearless Femme: Kseniya Berson

Today's Fearless Femme is a Philadelphia wedding photographer who was called "the definition of ambition" in her nomination. Everyone, meet Kseniya Berson! She's a boss lady who manages a successful photography business while still having a full-time job (hello hustle!), and we're so excited to feature Kseniya in this campaign today!

Where do you call home?

What do you do for a living?

I am a destination wedding photographer.

Name 3 people who inspire you:

The number one person that inspires me would definitely be my mom. She has been through so much and always comes out of every obstacle stronger than before. She doesn't let anything get in her way. Other than my mom, I guess I would say I am inspired by any and every woman that is out there being true to herself and making her dreams a reality.

What motivates you?

I want to make my parents proud. They immigrated to the US from another country so that their kids could have a better future. As an adult, I realize now how scary that is - just moving across the world to a place where you don't know a single person or even understand the language! I used to worry a lot that since I chose to be a photographer (and not something like a lawyer or a doctor), that I wouldn't be able to make a living with my art and let my family down. My family is so supportive of my passion for photography and would never be let down by that, but I want to show people that you can make a living and still do something you love every day.

Who is your favorite person on social media right now?

An account called Darling Magazine. I've been following them for years. Darling does not retouch any of the women in their magazine. Their whole message is something that I am very passionate about - women standing together, empowering one another, and just appreciating each other without comparing or criticizing.

What is your greatest extravagance or splurge?

Probably all my photography equipment...or travel. It's really hard for me to say no to a trip.

Where is your favorite travel destination?

I feel like this should not be the hardest question to answer but for some reason it is haha.Traveling is my favorite thing to do so it is really difficult for me to pick just one place. I feel like everywhere I've been has left some sort of impression on me. I love being outside, exploring and learning about different cultures and different people. I really can't just pick one place!

How do you take your coffee?

I am more of a tea person :)

Describe yourself in three words:

Outgoing, kind, & ambitious

What advice would you give your younger self?

Don't listen to people that don't know you and simply believe in yourself. I had SO many people tell me I should not be a photographer. In fact, I had my photography professors in college tell me that I will never make it as a professional photographer. Some people can just be really cruel before even getting to know you so I think my biggest advice would be to not let people get to you and believe that if you want anything bad enough, you just have to work for it until you get it!

Where can we find you on a Sunday afternoon?

Probably photographing a wedding but if I'm not working then I'm probably picking up flowers at Reading Terminal or getting brunch with friends at one of the many amazing restaurants in Philly.

What's the best relationship advice you've ever gotten?

That both sides need to be understanding and to compromise - but I'm still working on that compromise part haha!

If you could be any superhero, who would you be and why?

Definitely Wonder Woman. She shows young girls that you can be loving, graceful, tough, and fierce all at once.

Where's your favorite place to eat?

My mom's house - she's the best cook ever!

How do you stay sane balancing your life and career?

Being a freelance photographer, I work crazy hours almost every single day including weekends so I try to take a few hours every week to step away from the computer and focus on myself and on the people that I love. I make sure that once a week I will either do an hour of yoga, go out on a date night, or simply have dinner with my family. I know once a week is not much time to focus on personal things but it's a start! :)

What's your favorite app right now?

I am probably the worst person to ask this because I am such a grandma when it comes to technology. I barely even have any apps on my phone other than Facebook for business and Instagram. Is that lame? I feel like it sounds lame haha
