Spring Beauty Buys: No Longer Just Floral-Inspired Pastels
Spring is here (though it may not feel like it with the abundance of freezing rain and low temperatures Philly has been experiencing). I know –it’s a mixed feeling for me as well – I hate the rain and having to use an umbrella, but it really does justify my overpriced impulse purchase of black rain boots with ironic little red bows. And of course, now that Easter has passed and everyone is not in a rush to grab anything and everything “baby pink” and “dandelion yellow” in an attempt to make your wardrobe and nails look like a walking rendition of a nursery theme, we can talk about new beauty items you need to get you through these last few weeks before the months of summer (and even into them!).
Below is a list of some of my favorites, all able to be fit into this perfect see-through clutch by ban.do that has me thinking of all of the clear Lucite of the fifties and sixties (in the very best way):
e.l.f. continues to amaze me with its quality products set at such a low price point. This bubble mask is the perfect gel-based cleanser to prep your pores and skin for the increase in temperatures set before us! Rub this mask in like a normal gel cleanser all over your face and watch as the bubbles fizz and foam to remove excess dirt and cleanse pores for a springtime glow. If you are anything like me and require something to burn or react in order to know it’s working – this is just the product for you (without the actual recovery period of a chemical peel or other impulse purchase at the esthetician).
Using only aloe vera, chamomile, cucumber, and vitamin E, these make-up remover wipes remove all makeup (even those that are water-resistant!) and are gentle enough to use daily without irritating skin. Free of fragrance, parabens, and petrochemicals, these wipes are also biodegradable. Even better, a portion of every sale goes towards the Natural Resources Defense Council's Polar Bear SOS initiative.
One of my biggest irritations in the morning, outside of spilled coffee and deciding what to wear, is when after applying all of my creams and serums and potions to somehow stop time and the inching fine lines under my eyes, my foundation decides to run all over my face. This primer is my solution. Formulated with 15 essential and lipid-rich plant oils with the ability to still absorb quickly and not leave my face a greasy wreck, this primer oil is the solution to keeping my foundation in place and treating my skin simultaneously.
I wear a full-coverage foundation in the winter months because my skin experiences a plethora of issues including dryness, breakouts, and a sickly shade of olive due to lack of sun and general happiness. As the weather warms up and I venture outside more, I like to switch to a tinted moisturizer to allow my natural radiance (or so I like to call it) to show through. The Estee Edit provides the perfect bronze tint while still providing coverage and moisture (with hyaluronic acid to boot!). The cap also has a golden highlighter for cheek and brow bones while the soft scent of fruit and coconut oils has me thinking of beaches and drinks garnished with umbrellas already.
I know. I know. How could I speak about a nudes eyeshadow palette that wasn’t one of Urban Decay’s Naked palettes? Well, because outside of a slightly less matte finish and not-so-glamorous packaging, this palette packs a similar punch in terms of versatility and wear. Oh, and did I mention it is a mere $11.99 compared to $54? That helps too.
Maybe it’s the name that really won me over on this trio, but shimmery liners in gold, bronze, and black are perfect to mix and match for spring nights out with your girlfriends and will wear well into summer and fall. The unique shades also play differently depending on eye color and can really enhance flecks of color hidden within your eyes.
This richer version of a lipgloss (with absolutely no stickiness) has a built-in primer that allows the shiny finish to last up to 6 hours. With the lasting power of a lipstick and the softness of a gloss, this lacquer is perfect for spring. And in my opinion, the Cocoa Pop is flattering on everyone (a nice alternative to a nude!).
Happy shopping ladies!
