Event: The Hunting Ground Movie (Philadelphia)
For those of you who don't know, April is the official Sexual Assault Awareness Month (SAAM). Throughout this month, organizations in the U.S. will be ramping up efforts to raise public awareness about sexual assault and educate communities on how to prevent it. Femme & Fortune is proud to join this mission as we support our sister organizations bring more awareness and truth to the conversation within our local and global communities. A Philadelphia-based company by the name of ROAR for Good is on a mission is to reduce assaults through smart, safety jewelry and educational programs. To kick off SAAM, they will be hosting a free, public screening of The Hunting Ground THIS Wednesday (4/6) at Temple University’s Center City Campus in Philadelphia. This award-winning documentary exposes the prevalence of sexual violence on America's top college campuses, their institutional cover-ups, and the devastating toll they take on students and their families.
According to the Campus Sexual Assault (CSA) study, one in five women are sexually assaulted while in college. Similarly, a Washington Post - Kaiser Family Foundation poll found that 25% of young women suffered unwanted “Sexual assaults on college campuses and around the world are an urgent issue for which much more work needs to be done. "We believe getting people to view this film and along with open discussions on this painful topic is a start to decreasing the violence,” said ROAR for Good co-founder & CEO, Yasmine Mustafa (and a former #30Under30PHL).
