Enjoy the Holidays with Gratitude and Mindfulness

With the holidays around the corner, you may be feeling a pinch. It can be stressful: deciding what events to go to, what to buy for whom and dealing with the awkward, hard conversations at family dinners. At the Holly Jolly Lash Bash event hosted at The Hive on Monday, Dec. 9, host Pax Tandon, wellness coach and editor of Authentic Happiness, shared three tools to not just survive the holidays but to thrive because of them. Those tools are gratitude journaling, mindfulness and meditation.

“In this time of joy, it’s important to be mindful about the sources of true joy, and it is in journaling about them, practicing mindfulness around them that you can create that awareness,” Tandon said.

Grab a notebook or journal and each day, write three things you’re grateful for. Even Oprah practices gratitude journaling. Or you might pick one thing you’re grateful for and explain why in three to five sentences, like Marie Forleo does. The important thing is to recognize what is good in your life and focus on that. When you’re grateful for what you have, you’ll be given even more to be grateful for.

Mindfulness, a major buzzword right, really just means general awareness of what you’re feeling, which generates focus, clarity and awareness.

Tandon led the group through a body scan meditation, assessing what sensations they felt from the tops of their heads down to their toes. Everyone who tried it was visibly relaxed, feeling lighter after the meditation. A recording of the body scan meditation is on YouTube.

It’s also important to pamper yourself through the holidays, and Deneen Marcel Lashes sampled lash extensions and did a brow bar at the event. “When you feel good, you look good and when you look good, you feel good,” Tandon said.
