How To Be A Lovely It Girl with Michela Aramini

When I first came across Michela Aramini of The Lovely It Girl, I fell in love with her brand and message. "Dedicated to inspiring and empowering you to become the bold, beautiful, brilliant It Girl you were born to be," Michela recently started her business after finding a professional void while working as a corporate "9-5er." The birth of The Lovely It Girl came about to empower women to be the best version of themselves that they can be, and we've got the scoop on everything Michela here on Femme & Fortune. Femme & Fortune: What inspired the creation of "The Lovely It Girl?" Did you always want to be an entrepreneur?

Michela: I was inspired to create The Lovely It Girl after landing my "dream job" working in fashion and beauty marketing at a world renowned publishing company in New York. I had worked hard my entire life to create a life that looked perfect from the outside but on the inside I felt completely disillusioned. I kept asking myself "Is this really it?" and couldn't shake the feeling that I was settling for a life I didn't truly love.

I've always been entrepreneurial since I was really young, but never considered myself an "entrepreneur." Entrepreneurship wasn't presented to me as a career option growing up. It wasn't until I started networking with women entrepreneurs in New York that I realized these women were the true It Girls in our society. They were bold, beautiful, brilliant women who dared to want it all, do it all and have it all. Their sparkle was contagious and immediately I felt like I had found my "clique."

I became passionate about redefining the It Girl and discovered my purpose in inspiring and empowering young women become the It Girls they were born to be. Leveraging my marketing and branding prowess, The Lovely It Girl was born. I believe personal branding is a process of becoming the It Girl you were born to be from the inside-out (instead of the outside-in like so many women are mislead to believe).

about-imageFemme & Fortune: After you realized that your first "dream job" wasn't your actual passion, what steps did you take to move in a different direction?

Michela: I first began to network like crazy with like-minded women who inspired me and brought out my most authentic self. I also started to listen to myself more and began a practice of self love that was anchored in an intention to turn my self-loathing into self-loving. I quickly realized that in order to transform my personal and professional life, and truly become the It Girl I was born to be, I had to get out of my own way! I did lots of yoga, meditation and read lots of juicy personal development books. With a clear mind and open heart I was able to discover my inner It Girl (my most authentic, true, and best self). This clarity allowed me to clearly communicate my "It" with conviction and I began to create my personal brand both online (social media, personal blog, guest blogging) and offline (networking, speaking engagements, workshops). I wanted to be known as The Lovely It Girl, an It Girl Mentor and Personal Brand Consultant who was on a mission to redefine the It Girl, so I set out to create a personal brand that would serve as my platform to spark my movement and spread my message.

Femme & Fortune: What do you consider your greatest achievement?

Michela: I have so many dreams of where I want to take my business and brand, but the simple act of just launching my business, which required so much personal growth and an unbreakable belief in myself and my dreams, has been the most self-empowering, self-fullinging achievement to me.

Femme & Fortune: Looking back on your journey, would you have done anything differently?

Michela: Taken entrepreneurship classes in college! Other than that, je ne regrette rien.

Femme & Fortune: What is the greatest obstacle you have faced in building your company? How did you overcome it?

Michela: I am not a numbers person! Having to take on the financial responsibility of running my own business has been challenging to say the least! My dream is to someday have a CFO who handles all of The Lovely It Girl's finances but for now I have to be that person. I set up a profile on Learnvest and have been working with a financial planner who has really helped me take control of both my personal and professional finances, which is key to growing a profitable business from scratch!

TLIG-heroFemme & Fortune: If a young woman walked up to you asking for advice on being a Lovely It Girl, and you only had a few minutes to give them your best tip, what would it be?

Michela: Never settle for a life that is less than one you truly love. Know that you have something unique to offer the world and never let anyone let you think otherwise (especially yourself!). Your "It" is your key to creating a personal and professional life you truly love. When you know "It" and own "It" you will attract the right people and right opportunities into your life that will empower you to grow into the It Girl you were born to be.

Femme & Fortune: Tell us about a typical day in your life.

Michela: I start most days off with a morning hot yoga class at my favorite yoga studio in New York, Modo Yoga, in the West Village. I then head to work at my corporate job in Midtown. Lunch breaks are often spent in Bryant Park chatting with a potential client or strategic partner over coffee. After work I either head home (SoHo) to work on The Lovely It Girl (client work, class prep, blog posts, social media, etc.) or head to a networking event. I spend any free time on the weekends spending time with my boyfriend, reading in the park (Washington Square Park or Central Park), getting drinks with friends, getting my nails done, and trying my best not to give into temptation and go shopping in SoHo.
