Spotification - Tips On How To Use Spotify
If you use Spotify but aren’t a Premium subscriber, I have no sympathy for you. Consider all of the great features you are missing out on: mobile streaming, higher bitrates, zero advertising...! But did you know that there are a few other tips and tricks that you can use with your Spotify account to get the most out of your service? Not so fast, you have to be a Premium subscriber to have fun with all of these! So sign up as a premium member (there's a free 30 day trial, but it only $9.99 a month and it's SO worth it for all of your music pleasure), and keep reading.
Here are some nifty things you can do with your Spotify account:
Other Payment Options - You don’t necessarily have to sign up for recurring payments on your debit/credit card. You can pay for your Spotify with a PayPal account if you have one. If you don’t have that, there are gift cards available at retailers like Target and Best Buy that you can pay for the service.
Collaborative Playlists - In the Desktop version, right-click on a playlist and select the “Collaborative” option to share a playlist with your friends so you may collaboratively add/remove songs as you go along!
Cross-fade Between Tracks - This is especially useful if you want something like auto-DJ playback from a playlist or album. Go to File > Preferences in the Desktop version or Options in the Mobile version and change the “Crossfade” option from 0s (seconds) to 12s. (This would work a lot better if it could be combined with a Spotify app that could measure BPMs but there aren’t any developed yet.)
Import Playlists - In the Desktop version (and possibly the iOS version), you can import music from iTunes that Spotify doesn’t have in its library (like The Beatles discography or Rihanna’s album Unapologetic) by going to File > Import Playlists > iTunes.
Around The World - Ever wondered what Spotify subscribers in other countries are listening to? Under the Top Lists tab, you can see the most popular artists, albums, or tracks worldwide, in a particular country, and within your own listening history!
Karaoke, Anyone? - Going to karaoke night can be expensive and sometimes the DJ doesn’t have your song. Spotify has a fix for that, and you may want to connect to a strong speaker system if you want to entertain your friends and family on this one! Search for your favorite song, preferably by title. If you scroll down the results, you’ll see some instrumental versions available. Make them into a playlist for easier queuing. If using the Desktop version, you can combine it with the TuneWiki app to get the lyrics scrolling. And yes, some of the more recent music out there has karaoke instrumentals available!
- Join the Community - If you are up for it, participate in Spotify’s online community under the Help section of their website. If you get a high enough level of clout, they’ll hook you up with some sweet perks!
So how are you using your Spotify?
